Hatton in the bar
The weekend before the Mosconi Cup, there was a minor scuffle at the MGM Grand ? Floyd Mayweather v Ricky Hatton for the Welterweight Championship of the World.
With the fight crowd filling the MGM Grand for the weekend, by Tuesday most of them were gone. However, one who stayed was Ricky Hatton who mingled in the bar at the MGM late night as he chatted with fans and posed for photos.
Some of the Mosconi Cup party, winding down after a long day, were on hand to witness this superb display of solidarity with his fans from man of the people Hatton.
Mosconi Cup Dinner
On the eve of the tournament, Matchroom Sport hosted the annual Mosconi Cup players dinner in a private room at the MGM Grand. Following introductions, a 15 minute highlight film of last year?s event was screened, showing all the highs and lows of the 2006 event.
Guests of honour were the ten players as well as the two non-playing captains and all players who were introduced the gathering of about 80 people by MC John McDonald.
Following that, both captains made their customary speeches with Kim Davenport in particular spelling out just what the Mosconi Cup means to the players. The American captain concluded with an excellent poem about the event which mentioned every player in turn and drew a big round of applause.
